Course Syllabus
Brief Description of Course: This is a rigorous course designed to explore topics of computing as they apply to our society. This course includes programming and analysis, functional design, planning and interpreting algorithmic concepts.

Unit 1: Algorithms, Graphics and Graphical User Interfaces
Unit 2: The Internet
Unit 3: Raining, Reigning Data
Unit 4: Intelligent Behavior
Major Tests or Projects: Each unit has a summative test. There are three major projects due each semester. One of the projects is the semester final and is combined with a multiple choice test for the semester final. The AP Test replaces the year end final.

Technology/Electronics Usage Expectations: Online classroom behavior is an extension of our classroom and comes with the same rules and expectations. Appropriate technology use is a student’s responsibility. The District’s Acceptable Use Policy is part of the student handbook and can be reviewed at: http://goo.gl/OeCHi. Personal devices that are used to access required classroom texts and resources may always be used when a textbook is used, otherwise classroom use of technology will be determined by the teacher and established rules may change based on classroom activities and situations. Cell phones will be silenced and put away before entering the classroom UNLESS permission has been given by the instructor.
Retake/Redo Guidelines
1.Assessments:
All students in this course will be given the opportunity to retake or redo ALL assessments. (Final exams are excluded.)
2.Requirements:
Formative retake requirements: none: students may redo and update work as necessary to demonstrate learning
Summative retake requirements: All formative work must be completed prior to the retake, including any additional practice assigned by the teacher.
3.Timeline:
- All retakes must be completed before the next unit summative assessment. This will be adjusted as appropriate for students with IEP’s, 504’s or other individualized learning plans.
4. No Retake Opportunity:
The following assessments/projects in this course cannot be retaken as multiple opportunities are already built into the process of producing the assessment that provide for revision, rough drafts, etc., and significant teacher feedback is provided to the student regarding his/her progression as it relates to the assessment: :
- All final exams
5. Other Notes:
- The assessment may be different from the original but the skills being assessed must be of the same rigor.
- If a student retakes an assessment and earns a lower grade than on the first attempt, the retake grade will stand.
